Is there an MP3 player that runs off Linux or an open source OS?

  1. Yes, but its not linux based its flash

you would be looking at the cowon S9, which is totaly flash based OS, and they 'want' you to make custom UCIs for it, there is a fan site for the S9 which has them already. If you meant "open source" like that
  2. Sexy looking MP3. I can't believe I never saw it before. Reasonably priced too. Thank you. Any other suggestions?
  3. I wouldn't really bother looking at anything beyond the Cowon S9. Great media player. Only gripes are:

    1. Max 32GB internal memory
    2. No memory expansion slot.

I use it even after purchasing my Motorola Droid smartphone which is crappy for media when compared to the Cowon S9.
  4. whoa wait cowon just got a new one out called the J3 it looks very nice, it looks like a samung phone.

also has a SD Slot and a external speaker :)

oh and its a S9 in heart just different style and new UI
  5. Yeah, the Cowon J3 looks real interesting. I wish the S9 had expandable memory capabilities.

Since I only bought my S9 last year, I'll simply wait for something to come along with higher internal memory capacity. 128GB flash memory would be nice, but probably at least another 5 years away.
  6. I don't think its worth it if you already have a S9 but for someone who wants a S9 but don't have one, that is the best tbh
