Why does printers colored ink run without using it /

I seldom print in color on my Canon iP1800, yet it runs out and must be replaced so I can print in black. Why?????

Short answer is the ink dries up, clogging the print head. If you rarely print in colour, inkjets are poor value -- if you print regularly they are expensive to run.

I would get a laser printer -- colour, even, now that they are coming down in price. Because it's dry medium the toner can last years between uses.
