Could someone tell me what would be the best cpu for my board.. I have the asus a7n8x.. currently i have a amd duron 1.2 with 512 of pc2700.. I am thinking about the barton 2500, but i am not sure if i should go with that one or go with say the 2600 because it has a faster clock speed.. is it worth while to go with the 2500 barton ?

Hehe! There's a question without a clearly defined answer. The 2600+ should be slightly faster (though I can't say I've seen any benchmarks for the 2500+.) If it was me, I'd want to see what the overclocking potential of the 2500+ is, because sometimes, you can get a lot of free megahertz when a certain core is released after its faster big brother is released. If the 2500+ can reach 2.2 ghz on a consistent basis, I would go with that. I haven't heard that the 2600+ is a particularly great overclocker. If you are not into the idea of overclocking, then the 2600+ is probably the better choice for you.
