I've been looking into ordering the Asus G51J-A1 model and was going to order it from either Gentech, Xotic PC or Amazon.com as my backup. However, as of today, I've noticed that Amazon and Gentech not only no longer have the item in stock but neither do they list it at all.

Should I be worried that xoticpc will soon no longer stock it? It is currently their best selling model but I was holding off for a price drop come February when Nvidia announce their new cards but am now thinking that I should order it soon before it's no longer being made - for the $1450 price tag, I won't likely find more bang for my buck and I am severely price limited here

It is out of production. If you look at the xotic pc website you will its successor, the G51Jx-A1. Same price, only one HDD, and a slower GPU.

Kind of a disappointment really, I was looking to pick up the G51J as well.

Well, the G73JH-A1 is only $100 more (if you remove the bluray drive) and significantly more powerful so it's not all bad news :-)

I wanna warn you about something with the G51J-A1 before you consider buying it. I bought one and put it on top of my friend's 17 inch laptop and to my surprise they were EXACTLY the same size. So you're getting a 17 inch laptop with a 15'6 inch screen. So my recommendation is to buy the G73JH as everyone else is saying, its better and you're getting more bang for your buck.

I just got the G72 {using it to type this} & I love it! It plays WoW at max settings with x8 multisampling at over 45 FPS {30 in Dal}. I was also thinking about the G51J-A1 from Xotic PC {I actually placed the order}, but I saw the G72 at Best Buy for $999.00 and decided to give it a shot {and save $400.00 +}. I was a bit skeptical about the Core 2 Duo at first, but I am pleased with the overall performance. I ended up cancelling my order with Xotic PC and don't regret it at all.

I know the G51J & the G73 have there upside over the G72, but the G72 has plenty of power to play modern games. I ran the free version of 3DMark06 and hit a score of 10100 {and change, I don't recall the exact figure}. Just thought that if you weren't dead set on the i7, DDR3 configuration of the G51J & the G73 and were willing to consider the G72 and save some cash, that I would let you know what I think of mine.

Ok so i just figured out that Asus includes an overclocking utility with the G72. So I used it and my CPU speed jumped to 2.88GHZ. I also downloaded and installed the Nvidea Power Tools and overclocked the GTX 260M to 550/950/1375.

I ran WoW again and my FPS jumped to over 70FPS {although I did disable the Vsync feature too}. Ran 3DMark06 and my score went from 10100 {and change} to 10584. I read a forum where a guy pushed the G72 a bit further and was getting a 3DMark06 score of over 11000.

I checked out the G73 and have to say that I would love to get one, but just can't see spending the extra caash on it over the G72 right now.
