Anyone every use a Peltier Juntion for cooling?

I was thinking of trying one of thes things out when I get my new CPU and mobo in May. Has anyone tried this and how well do they work?

(I used a fan/pelt once but that was with a 366 celeron). Make sure you have ample amperage on your power source. Pelts will draw from 5-15+amps and produce a considerable amount of heat. You will need close to double the wattage pelt to over come the equal amount of heat. I.e. a ~70w heat producing processor will need a ~120w peltier.

Thermaltake make a slightly more advanced system with power control and supply through a PCI card with external power plug. Max Power 73W. Bit more expensive than your suggestion however..

It is a good idea, and I have seen them for use in electronics Supplies stores, just the part, but they are not for use on processors, in the data sheet however it says you can get a 50C differential between each side.

Not for use on cpus my @$$. I will make it work. Just because it lacks mouns does not mean I can't make them.

I've seen them used on CPU's. About 2 years ago they were popular IN THIS VERY FORUM! But get this...they have problems. First is that bacause the bottom gets cold, you have to silicon it to the CPU or suffer condensation damage. Second problem is, these things DO burn out, and when they burn out the turn into a giant heating element! Third problem is heat, you need a gigantic cooler or water cooling system for the hot side.

I think I would rather be satisfied with a moderate overclock, or even none at all, then have to worry that my exotic cooling system could fail any minute (and take my CPU and possibly even my motherboard with it, like H2O systems can...)

I know some of you will consider this sacreligious, but it seems like there is a point of diminishing returns where you reach a certain overclock and then the cost of cooling outwieghs the benefits of the extra megahertz. I suppose if I had a system I was just tinkering with that wasn't my primary computer, maybe it would be fun to push the envelope, like a science project. But for my everyday system, I'll just be content with the good-old fan/heatsink until something more fool-proof comes along.

And you know what ELSE? I think Arctic Silver is a rip-off! And I also use a CHEAP power supply!!MUHAWHAWHAWHAW!!!! And I only have ONE intake fan!!!! In fact, I think the VIA EPIA is a really GREAT product!!!! heeheeheeheehee! [Cackle!]
