can i buy a drive that will? and if i buy a drive, would i have toupgrade anything else like the video card or anything? i already upgraded from 4g ram to 8g ram in my laptop so thats one thing checked off.

You should be able to change it out although I do not have experience doing it myself. Your laptop screen has to have full HD display (1080p) to actually take advantage of a blu-ray, and your GPU has to be able to process it, which I think most can (even intergrated graphics handle 1080p streaming). You will also likely need some kind of software, I don't think Windows supports it in any native player.
