Hey
i was wondering which would be better for mobile gaming in a laptop, a desktop or mobile p4?
ive been looking at the toshiba 2450 series which has a 2.6 ghz desktop and the toshiba 5205 series which has a 2.0 ghz mobile.
im still relucatnat on purchasing because im not sure which one to get. im not sure how fast the desktop one will actually run compared to the mobile one. ive heard that desktop cpu's are clocked significantly low to conserve battery power.
bah, im confused
any clarification would be much appreciated.

Well sure the desktop cpu will give better performance, but it will run far hotter and chew through the battery far quicker.

Mobile chips are designed to be mobile for a purpose. Run slower (usually) lower voltage, less heat, less power consumption and better speed/power consumption control systems.

The way that it's generally done is that if it's a desktop CPU in a mobile platform, the CPU will run at full speed when the laptop is running on AC power, but will run at half speed (sometimes even less) when the laptop is running on DC power. So leave the thing plugged in and you should get it's full performance.

Of course, it's full performance is going to be greatly hindered by the laptop's memory, graphics, and hard disk implementations, but those are the prices that you pay for being 'mobile'.

it doesn't matter if you run at a descent resolution ie 1280x1024 or higher.

ANY P4? You might just want to reword that juin.

Aside from that, I'm still not even convinced that the P-M is faster than any P4-M. I don't think that it is. It's just more intelligent and almost as good, but also more expensive.
