I have a 1 year old HP G60 laptop. I didn't use it for 3 weeks. Now, whenever I boot, it boots to the HP splash screen (black screen), displays the BIOS F key options and then continuously beeps very loudly. After about 30 seconds, "windows loading files" displays, the windows progress bar displays, and the HP recovery manager program displays. HOWEVER, if I hit F9 during bootup, I can select the boot from hard disk option and it boots just fine. I have reset the BIOS defaults, reloaded BIOS, reordered the boot device list, checked the disk and memory in BIOS, reseated the memory, performed a hard reset, did a recovery, and nothing solves the problem. The PC always boots fine when I select F9 to boot from hard disk. The battery always shows a full charge. Everything is fine when I force a boot from the hard drive. What's up?
Thanks for the reply. I disconnected & reconnected the CMOS battery. Also, I measured 3.17 volts at the battery. Seems ok to me. By the way, today I could only boot once from F9. I get no error messages and when I hit F2 for the start-up messages everything seems ok.
