A computer science degree is an IT program and it will qualify you for a variety of roles in this field such as software engineering, information security specialist, network administration, programming, etc. You should also know that computer science degrees include coursework in complex topics like artificial intelligence, logic structures, algorithms, discreet math, etc. So, you need to have exceptional mathematical and analytical ability for this program.

Although some of the roles MichaelHicks mentioned are correct, the two big ones there are software engineering and programming. Network admin and information security spec. are more of a MIS/OIS degree. If your college doesn't offer IT as a major look for Management/Operations Management of Information Systems. It will most likely be a business major and this is where you will learn the networking side of stuff along with the actual business of IT. For Information security specialist, you would probably be looking at a criminal justice major that specializes in electronic security. If you are going the CS route, your degree can get you a lot better of a job than being in IT, I can sure tell you that.

Bottomline is that you can do a variety of different routes through college and get jobs in the IT field.
