Brother MFC-2125C wont print

I have been given a Brother multifunction printer/scanner/fax machine. Everything bar the printing works fine as far as i can tell (dont use fax). When i phoned Brother they told me it could be the printheads needed cleaning or they could be fused etc and it would cost me £30 just to find out never mind repair. I cant as a pensioner afford that so would like to know how i get into the machine to check if they are fused or not. I am not bad when it comes to taking things apart and putting them back correctly but have never tackled anything like this before so wondered if anyone had any ideas i could try. do you just get no print on the page? do an nozzle check to see if there a re any blocked print nozzles, then perform a head clean. If the nozzles will not recover after a few cleans, the print head is probably stuffed and you can throw it in the bin.
