Forum Laptops & Notebooks : General Discussion Need Advice On Choosing a Laptop

Hi! My little sister is graduating from high school in June, and I am planning to buy her a laptop as her graduation gift. She will be going to college in the fall, and is majoring in art. She is also severely dyslexic, and needs a program that will type for her as she talks, so a built-in microphone is needed. A web cam would be cool but she could always buy that as an accessory. She will be doing homework on it, and possibly some artwork, although she is majoring in Studio Art and I don't know for sure if there will be any need for her to use the computer for her artwork. She isn't on the internet that often and isn't into games or anything. I am not very technical and am not sure what kind of memory she needs. I don't want to ask her and ruin the surprise...and she isn't that computer savvy, so she doesn't need a lot of fancy features.
My budget is $300...Any advice on which brand/model would best suit my sister's needs? Thanks!

$298 with Webcam, windows 7, and mic. There is software included in windows 7 for translation of voice to text. Best of luck!

You also might want to invest in a quality microphone. Voice to text works an order of magnitude better with a good mic, especially in noisy environments like college.
