So tell me, when are the Barton's set to ship to Canada? I have the 2500+, but only because I got it from newegg.com. None of the local retailers have it, and I've only found one Canadian site that actually has the 2500 in stock. The 2800's I see all over, and I've never actually seen a 3000 anywhere up here in the great white north. So, who knows some definite dates?

Take off! to the Great White North, Take off! it's a beauty way to go.

Just kidding, the McKenzie brothers kick butt. Not only do I own the movie (Strange Brew) I own the album (The Great White North Album).

So like, Take Off! You Hosers!

Towel off you knob, you're blowing the floor.......

I can say this as I used to live near the border in Minnesota, and now I live in Alaska.

Water cooling is for the weak. Get liquid nitrogen.

It might be worhty to mention that the 3000+ Barton is not really available in any local computer store, not just in Canada but any country....not saying NO LOCAL STORE has them...btu there few and far between....reason being ?? AMD SAID THERE 3000+ WILL BE LIMITED QUANTITY.....thats the key word =) so sure it'll be at places like Newegg or googlegear or whatever.......but that doesnt comprise of or supply the whole world.......just a lot of the online buyers, and theres more people who buy there stuff in the store as opposed to ordering it onlien and havign it shipped........so thats why its usualy at onlien retailers cuz theres less of a demand there.......be patient anyways......the 2500+ u have now can EASILLY Surpass the 3000+ speeds when you overclock...and dont even try and say ur 2500+ isnt cutting it....lol

To metalrocker: The upgrade isn't for me, it's for people I build computers for. I usually do consulting for people who want new computers, and I send them to local companies with a spec sheet. However, if they don't have the processor I recommend, what good is it? I'm a huge fan of the 2500+, and recommend it a lot, but if they can't get it at Joe's computer shop, what good is it?

to lumberjack: ncix gets their parts from the states. I'm wondering when AMD is actually going to ship some to canada, so we don't have to go down south to get them. It's especially bad considering these things were made in Germany, and they just couldn't send a few crates our way.

Why don't you make some wholesale contacts and sell the parts yourself?

In most cases it just takes a provincial vender's permit (free) to get registered to buy at some pretty nifty discounts. I buy my parts in small volume from half a dozen wholesalers in my area and sell cheaper than the local computer stores. My customers love it. I make my real money from service contracts (extended warranties) and labour billings.

AMD, as in your example, has dozens of wholesalers all across Canada, most have hundreds of chips in stock ready to ship. Almost every other company in the industry has a similar setup going on.

There are wholesalers all over Canada... just do a few searches for "Computer Wholesale" and such at http://www.yahoo.ca to find them.

Yeah, but I don't have the volume or desire to do that. I do the consulting, give them a spec sheet, and they take it to their local retailer who puts it all together. I don't really want to take care of the warranties and stuff. I'm not looking to start a business, just to help a few people out who need it.

I wasn't talking about starting a business. Just a way to get stuff real cheap. But, it's up to you. You are going to be limited to locally available stuff the way you are doing it.

Good luck with it...

I'm not doing anything. The local companies sell everything I need. I' not setting up the most pimped out computers here. I'm setting up budget to performance systems for my clients. I tell them what they will want in their systems. It's up to them to get them. All I do is recommend what they can find locally. I'm fine the way I'm doing it.
