The best free file transfer programme?

What is the best free file transfer programme? I have tried "yousendit"
etc., and others but they seem to slow down after a while or seem less
satisfactory, is there one that is "head and shoulders" above the rest?

I have been using the "send file" option from within Windows Messenger and
MSN Messenger for years without any problems. People tend to forget the
capabilities that come with the operating system (Windows Messenger), or
they want to turn them off because they say they don't need, use or want
them.

Thank you all for your suggestions, its to send large MP3 Files of
Music, in some cases whole works and up to now my friends use
"www.usendit.com" and a few similar programmes. I trust the programmes
mentioned above will do the same job only better?

It's mostly in the firewall. I use ZoneAlarm. You have to give MSN Messenger
4 green checks for total internet and server access.
