The best free file transfer programme?

What is the best free file transfer programme? I have tried "yousendit"
etc., and others but they seem to slow down after a while or seem less
satisfactory, is there one that is "head and shoulders" above the rest?

I have been using the "send file" option from within Windows Messenger and
MSN Messenger for years without any problems. People tend to forget the
capabilities that come with the operating system (Windows Messenger), or
they want to turn them off because they say they don't need, use or want
them.

Not saying it's better but http://megaupload.com/ allows you to send
to a large group of people, rather than just one person (up to 250
MB)

I find that the best way is to run your own http server, not only so
you can give files to friends, but so you have a permininant host for
images and such, rather then using fileshack or any thing of the like.
IF you have xp pro and IF you want to take the big risk of using a
insecure web server you can use IIS, how ever if you have xp home
and/or you want a nice secure web server, use apache insted.

Thank you all for your suggestions, its to send large MP3 Files of
Music, in some cases whole works and up to now my friends use
"www.usendit.com" and a few similar programmes. I trust the programmes
mentioned above will do the same job only better?

Richard, I use the latest version of MSN Messenger, and have trouble with
file transfers (both directions) from time to time. Works with some contacts
and not with others. What do I and my contacts need to do to ensure that we
can send files back and forth? Thanks.

It's mostly in the firewall. I use ZoneAlarm. You have to give MSN Messenger
4 green checks for total internet and server access.
