Has 2 Dr Peppers in it. That's it.

My freezer has some frozen lamb and chicken that my parents gave me. They gave me the Dr Peppers too.

Does anyone know of a good way to rename a whole bunch of files? I have 1150 pictures from my trip and they are all named like 292848381.jpg which is useless to me. So I was going to organize them by location and then just rename them something like Phi Phi 001.jpg and so on in the order they were taken.

Doing it by hand takes hours.

doubleclick on the file, view it, write a description down in the filename.

If you highlight all files of a certain desired topic, then press F2 or right click and choose Rename, and rename to something like, say "Phi Phi", all the files will have by ascending order a suffix like (1),(2).

Only way I know using the Windows Explorer interface. There are likely programs out there who manage files better, but you can try this in the meantime to quickly sort by the area you went to.

Out of curiosity how much memory did you buy for your digicam man? Sounds like your 3.2MP had some fun, or you prolly even reduced image size to fit more, huh?

I actually screwed up and didn't have the camera set on the highest setting for the first 450 pictures or so. It defaults at HQ and will not let me set the default to SHQ. I took so many picturs though of the temples that this was only a few weeks of the trip though. I then upped the quality to the highest which meant less pictures per card. All I had with me was a 128, 64, and 16MB card.

After this trip I know what I don't like about my digital camera. I'm definitely buying a new camera.

Buy A Sony with the 3.5 CD... They hold tons of photos... You can buy a 15 pack of them for $15 & be able to put literally thousands of photos on a 15 pack. Then you just format the CD & start again... I've had mine for 4 or 5 years now & wouldn't even think about a camera with flash memory.... Actually the camera is 4 x burner....

I sell digicams on a daily basis, you can always ask me for some tips if your budget range is within 500$ for the digicam itself.

I can't believe you fit all that on such cards man, that's amazing. I had to often transfer and format my 128MB in Lebanon to end up with 800 photos and videos. Not to mention I was using 1024*768 mode often to get many pics each day.

Actually that's the part I think is most important in a new digicam: people shouldn't take pics at max resolution all the time. It is IMO important to look for a digicam who accepts different resolutions, and I do mean a lot of ones. I like my A70's ability to shift between VGA, 1024, 1600 and 3.2MP. So whereas I can take up to 77 pics on average at 3.2MP on 128MB, I can also opt to get 223 pics on average using 1024, which is more than enough since most people's monitor resolution I send my pics to, including my screen's resolution use 1024*768. Pics are plenty big enough and pretty. The problem with using full size too is that viewing them in an app that doesn't resize the image to fit the screen upon viewing, like the Windows Image File Viewer in WinXP, makes them ugly and too huge to view. I never understood why full size generated ugly pics when big (they seemed like they had contrast issues or were very interpolated even though they ran at their native resolution), it's as if you finally see the true quality of your average digicam. Compare that to an SLR at full size viewing and you see a difference.

I think people should definitely look into a digicam's image resolution options way over quality ones. I never reduce my digicam's image quality. You can opt to lose some size in favor of space but still retain maximum quality (in most cases reduced size means you get to view a sharp image too depending on your screen size), or permanently lose details of important picture elements. IMO I'd rather resize. Although both are disadvantageous either way, it's a problem with memory card sizes and being away from a laptop or PC to transfer the data to. I guess I can see where RC might have a point. (I hope they will use Mini DVD-RW formats for those Mavicas later on, so you get way more than 156MB per CD!)
To sum up, choose max resolution if you plan to retouch the image a lot and in the end (the most likely last step) to print it. Otherwise stick to reduced image resolution to save space and view them easily on your PC regardless of which OS you use. (plus your camera's faster to use and navigate in Playback mode, faster to record, and finally you'll enjoy viewing your pics faster on your PC too. I can't imagine what nightmare it is to shift through 5MP pictures either in the digicam or on the PC, what with average 2MB sizes)

BTW my problem with Olympus' entry level cameras (mainstream ones like your D550, if that's the model IIRC?) is they lack features and they don't seem to have improved that. Paying that extra 50-70$ to get that A70 for me was not a regret, I got a full featured camera with tons of ways to shoot and enjoy. Even today I find new ways to get better pictures and learn more. And it's nice to have good video capabilities (something I use often) and user-customized themes for the camera menu and sounds.
