Hello

I'm sure that this is a frequently-asked question, but I have had no luck in
obtaining the answer via a web search, so here goes:

I'm upgrading my desktop pc to XP. As part of this process I will be wiping
the drive and doing a fresh reinstall. What should I do with regards my hot
sync files and applications already on the Palm?

I don't want to hard reset the pda, reinstall all the apps and have to set
up a new synchronisation between the Palm and Outlook, Docs To Go and
Ultrasoft Money.

Can it be done? The username will remain the same.

Thanks in advance

Martin

Install all your Palm apps on your PC. Then, for your first sync, set
all the conduits to "Handheld overwrites desktop". That should do it.

PS: I always do a backup to my SD card before I attempt stuff like
that.

I don't know how well this will work for the Palm software and conduits but
have you thought about using the File and Settings Transfer Wizard to export
your existing personal data and configuration data to the new machine? The
Wizard comes with XP and, I think, you can create a disk from the XP setup
disk to collect your old data to burn to CD and then you can re-import it
once you have rebuilt the machine.

Alternatively, partition your hard drive into two parts and place all your
data, including Palm backup files, onto the new D: partition. Then when you
rebuild the OS and apps on C: all your info will be intact. That is how my
machine is configured. It saves a lot of aggro when I decide to go for a
system rebuild.
