What is a better cpu a xp2500 barton or a 2600 or 2700 tbred. Both run at 333fpb but the barton has a larger cache. I am leaning towards the barton. Would like to at least overclock it past 2 ghz and maybe attain 2800 or even 3000 speeds. Is this possible with this chip? One other question. Is the multiplier locked on the barton chips or the t-breds?

I've seen 2500's go to around 2.3 to 2.4 ghz no problem, but you'll need a bit better cooling. Yes, the multiplier is locked on all AMDs, except a few early T-breds.

2x512MB Corsair PC3200
ATI 9700 Pro

Thats fine with me. Your system is practically identical to the system im building. Except i'll be using a single ata 133 maxtor 80gig and matched pairs of OCZ duel EL PC3200 DDR. Cooling will consist of four case fans and a volcano 7+ HSF.

Multipliers are NOT locked......all multipliers from 5 - 12.5 are unlcoked......above that they are locked of SOME motherboard......boards with the VIA KT400 or nVidia nForce 2 chipsets UNLOCK the higher multipliers, so you'll be fine.......

as for which is better....stock speed wise, the 2700+ T-Bred wou;d be the best....but if ur goign to overclock than the Barton 2500+ will be the best, as it attain the same MHz as the T-Bred would more than likely....PLUS it'll have that added 256Kb of L2 cache!

Hmm... I'm using a Volcano 9 with the coolmod. I will have six casefans, though.
