No, had to rebuild my machine recently, so I've got to re-install Steam and start the download again. Probably sometime this week, maybe the weekend. Plus I've got another rebuild to get done. I've got games backing up to be played at the moment.

I was having a few startup problems, so once I was up and running I backed everything up and zeroed the hard drive and started again. Of course, everything esle can be re-installed from CD, but oh-no, not HL2. And even with my 1Mb connection, it still takes over a night to download. That's the part I don't like, not being in control of the program.

Yea, I know what you mean on that. It only took me about an hour & a half or so to D/L it. I'm getting ready to load clean again when I get my parts & I've thought about the Steam D/L thing myself. Thing is, even with the disk, you still got to use Steam again, anyway... [shrug]

If it's any comfort, I need to wipe my system and load everything again. I do it every 2-3 months, and take the opportunity to dust out my PC case. And my ZIP 750 just gave up the ghost, so I'll need to shell out for a DVD burner for backup. The latest Sony 16x dual layer burner is an extortionate 150 Euros in Ireland Bloody rip-off
Bad luck about Steam though, I didn't realise you'd need to download the lot again.
Please allow me to mail you the latest edition of Barrymore Speculum Examination Monthly to comfort you in your hour of need.
I don't only break your heart, I also break your pelvis
F*cking hell that's expensive. Have you checked this out? I've thought about getting a DVD burner, but until my CDRW gives up the ghost, I just can't justify it.
I usually rebuild every six months, and it had been about that anyway, so I thought bollocks to it and away I went. The only downside was zeroing an 80Gb drive. Started it just before I went to bed and left it running overnight.
Yeah, Steam's a focker. Like RC says, even with the CD, you still need it. I don't like not being able to choose where and what I install.

There are pro's and cons to Steam I suppose. You don't have to worry about knackering up your media. As long as you have the licence key, you're set. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

No, Seagate. Want a WD, but the Seagate was a freebie. Even with their quick zero it takes forever. We have Seagate's at work, 40's mostly and they take ages too.

I see. I have WD, but the disc that came with it says it would take 8 + hours to zero. I D/L a new one & make a floppy & it takes 25 to 30 minutes now.. I thought that might help you.. But with Seagate, I'm useless...

Hmm, I'll have a look at the website later to see if there's a newer app. You can run online diags with Seagate, which is useful. I'll have little look around.
I really wanted an 80GB WD Caviar SE with 8Mb cache, but like I said, this drive was a freebie...

Speaking of freebies, I just got a free XP 1800 machine. Only it's on a SDRAM board. I loaded it for my Grand kids games.... Trouble is, I thought I wasn't going to use SDRAM anymore & got rid of mine.... The machine only has 128 mgs & is starved for RAM.... Dang, I could kick myself in the ass over it.....

Ok, back in control... Tube wiped off & dry again!!!!
BTW The Daughter In Law has been wanting Charred Salsa real bad... She's PG.. The tomatoes have been up to $2.99 a pound around here.. All of a sudden the prices dropped to $.47 a pound. Got urgent email yesterday asking when she could come & get her Salsa... I've got about 10 pounds of tomatoes & the rest.. Making Charred Salsa this morning...

Plus thanks to you I've got all kinds of safe guards now...maybe if that hadn't happened I would still be sending crap to friends and famiky...so there was a silver lining. Plus Adelphia cable don't hurt either LOL...
I myself have changed the way I run also.. I'm running Norton AV Corp. now & have updated to SP2, which adds a fire wall.. So I figured out a few things myself as well!!!!
Never to old to learn!!!

RAM isn't heavy, I don't think it should be too expensive to ship it to USA. Hopefully the packaging won't add a pound hehe...

Did you check out the recent review of DVD burners on THG? Definitely worth a look, they take a look at the dual layer 16X generation. Personally, if I were you I'd look at the Samsung THB552, which for its speed is the fastest and has the lowest latency times overall. Check out the LG too. You really don't need to spend so much on the Sony when it's not even that performing and you're paying for the retail package.
Anyways THG's review should orient you pretty easily towards a good purchase.
