If the DURON is that much cheaper, use it, otherwise the T-Bird 1.2 will be a slim tiny tid-bit little faster than the DURON. The reasons being the 133 FSB (except my RAM runs at 133 while my FSB is 100, KT7E) increases bandwidth, and the extra 184K of cache helps a bit.
If you building a gaming machine, get the T-Bird. If you want one that runs cool, get the DURON and undervolt it.
I had my DURON 1300 running at 1417 MHz and it was undervolted, allowing it to run cooler than normal while being overclocked.
But it all depends on what you want out of a computer.
Water cooling is for the weak. Get liquid nitrogen.
Edited by Skligmund on 03/19/03 05:58 AM.

unfort I am replacing a 1.2 Tbird (it is knackered, broke the core, DEFINATELY not my month for this stuff)
1.2Tbird vs 1.3Duron = 15% according to THG review & my calculating percentages
might be hard undervolting a duron, its going into a K7S5A (sis735 chipset)... not wot U can call a OC friendly board...
Might spend a 6 quid more & get a 1.33 Tbird, in stock is the quessie...
Hmmm, wonder if I can get a valid page fault ???
these invalid ones are far too commonplace...
The Duron will be faster in video encoding apps. and other apps where there's no 3D Now! optimization but have SSE optimization, or 3D Now! is just ineffective but SSE has effect on performance.
BTW, why you aren't buying a AXP (T-bred "B" ) 1700+? This is cheap and outperforms both Duron 1.3 GHz and T-bird 1.2 GHz (also have SSE)

I can buy a 1700+ T-bred 'B' here where I live for $88CDN, so im sure u can buy one for LESS than $50US, thats cheap in my opinion......
Also...usually the T-Bird will be faster than the Duron cuz of the Extra Cache, but it also depends on what ur doing with the computer...gaming?? the t-bird's ur choice, or better yet, the Athlon XP 1700+.......
only need a basics CPU (not for me, just replacing like for like or as close as possible)... by the time a cpu upgrade is needed by his games, a 2500 Barton could well be in the price range...
