my computer recently had to be shut down by pulling out the power when it started up again is said "operating system not found." I know there are a couple viruses that can hide you drive from the computer so it cant find it in startup but i dont know how to scan for viruses in dos. Is there a way to scan for viruses in dos with Norton antivirus 2000. please help me.

hopefully you masde a recovery diskette when norton prompted you to during the install if so place it in the floppy and restart your system also check in bios to see if bios recognizes your drive and set it to Auto

This can also sometimes be fixed by unplugging the IDE cables and plugging them back in to make sure there is a good connection.

You can go to http://www.bootdisk.com and download F-Prot its a DOS run virus irradicator, if you're able to post here you're probably using another machine so you can download and make a boot floppy and run F-Prot from a floppy itself.
