Hello, I'm trying to upgrade my conversion vans tv. The old tv had a single jack that pluged into the back of the tv that played through the speakers of the van..The new tv has left and right audio out. I bought a adapter at radio shack to connect the single jack to left and right audio. When I plugged it in the sound is very low playing through the vans speakers. Can anyone help with this.

The RCA output is a line level out, not a speaker level out.
The RCA out must be connected to an amplifier RCA input. This requires a shield RCA patch-cord that can be purchased at radio shack.
Then the amplifier output connects to the speaker.

You can buy a 12 Volt amplifier with RCA inputs for your van
