I got the Thermaltake Volcano 7 + and have secured attached that with AS3. I have placed the probe between 2 of the wafer thin fins on the Copper Heatsink. My temperaute gauge reckons that it go's up to about 28-30 degrees. I thought this was about right?? Especially also because I had heard the the AS3 takes a few days to be really effective?

However the BIOS reckons my CPU temp is 49-50 degrees?I would expect this doesn't lie?

Its a P4 2.4b and the volcano is running on Low speed???

The farther away from the core you are, the cooler the sink. Being copper, it probably cools off quickly. There is no way possible to get the probe to give you an accurate reading unless you sandwich it between the CPU and heatsink, in which case the CPU would not have proper contact with the sink and would overheat!

I find the best method is to thread the thermometer between the pins on the CPU itself and the socket. I have the Volcano 9+ and it fits just right. This usually gives a decent temp rating, and gets the fan working a bit more than it otherwise would, making sure that the CPU would be nice and cool

Ok thanks guys,

I'll move the probe around a little and see what difference it makes? Don't really want to remove the HSF or CPU in order to place it anywhere though. I should of done it right first time I guess.

But, going back, My BIOS is reporting that CPU temp is 47-50degrees. Is this abit hot? Its a P4 hardely under load either. Is it because the AS3 has only been there a couple of days. Is that theory even true? I put a generous amount on and then smeared it over. I twisted the Heatsink on it a couple of times before clamping down.

Then again I could be trying to improve something that is already running normal???

The reason I am so persistant is because I look forward to playing with Overclocking and I want to know I got it transfering heat properly???

Thanks in advance.

Those temps are fine. Don't worry about it.

Humn,

I'm curious because I have a mate with the same CPU who's using the ALu Flower and his CPU is running at 35degrees. My Volcano on LOW should be cooler than he's I would of thought? No?
