Can someone help me diagnose a problem? My office server slows to a crawl at times. When I bring up the Windows Task Manager, I see that whenever someone accesses the server, CPU usage jumps to 100%. Up until yesterday, it barely increased. Has a component gone bad? Your best guess is appreciated.

Some stats: Asus P4S533 MB with 1 Gig Ram, SCSI HD RAID 5 array, 1.8Ghz P4 CPU.

Are you running Ofiice 2000 on that server? Outlook 2000 can cause CPU usage to hit 100% and remain there. There is a service pack availible that addresses this. Just a guess.

Why dont u find out what device/progrma makes it jump to 100%?? in Tak Manager it tells u the open/running processes, how much ram there using and the CPU usage of them....so....check it out....

also make sure u have ALL windows updates...like SP3 etc.
