HELP NX9010 just died

Hello, Im new to the forum so i apologise now if iv left anything out. Iv got a hp compaq nx9010 with windows xp its worked fine until now even tho the battery dont hold charge when unplugged from charger, iv never had a problem.it worked fine yesterday but iv come to use it now and the on light flashes once then the battery light flashes 8 times then nothing.hope someone is able to help many thanks a desperate minivminx.
