could someone please explain which one is faster , because the top intel prosessors can transfer 6.4GB/s as the AMD athlon 64 bit ones can only do 3.2Gb/s

but is that whats important with graphics prosessing speed? will graphics rendering be faster on the 64 bit athlons or the 800 mhz p4's.

and when/if will intel release it backwards compatable 64 bit prosessors (for workstations)?

could someone help explain this to me...?

You really should read up on google before asking. A lot of information is covered.

As we've seen with the P4 and Athlon, memory bandwidth isn't everything. As for graphics speed, who knows, you'll have to specify which Intel processor (as both the current P4 and Prescott are due to have FSB800) and we'll have to wait for benchmarks. Do you expect us to be fortune tellers able to tell the future about processors that aren't out yet?

Intel's current plans are to release Teja was some IA-64 support (Intel's only 64-bit ISA). Later on, processors will most likely be a dual-core/hybrid of x86 and IA-64 ISA's. Expect this in 2005-2007.

There are currently no plans to bring a 64-bit processor to the desktop and Intel is planning on replacing its current Xeons with IA-64 based processors in the workstation market.
