We bought two computers, one a laptop and one a desk and noticed there are now modem connections for the phone. Dol they make modem connectors using USB or external to the computers these days or do I have to buy one and install it. Or can I take one from an older puter and reistall it. If so do I need the disk to install it or can I get the software needed off the internet somewhere?

I wonder if you are still in the dial-up modem age in your thinking because mostly computers no longer come with modems.

The way you connect to the internet is via broadband and the broadband supplier will usually give you a modem/router (usually with wireless). You then connect to that via the computer's ethernet network port using a cable -- or via wireless.

The laptop at least probably has wireless built in and the desktop can have it added.

If my assumptions are right you should carefully read the manuals for the computers and start pricing broadband suppliers.
