Finally I have outgrown the 16MB Memory Stick in my Clie T615C. Since
I won't be needing an other PDA for a while (this one works perfectly)
I am thinking about getting a larger (128MB) memory stick. How can I
transfer the info from old one to the new one?

The approach that comes immediately to mind is to copy all the data
from your current memory disk to your desktop computer's hard drive,
then install the new memory stick and copy the data back onto it from
the desktop machine.

Can one just copy the contents of a Memory Stick to a folder on a PC?
I am new to this type of information transfer, although I use
thumb-drives regularly. No special file format to deal with? I guess I
would have to get a reader, right?

Nope, Clies come with the software. Just put the Clie in the cradle and
the software mounts the MS as a drive. Then just drag and drop.
I have never had a Clie and know that. Looks like you should read the
fine manual.

Hope this helps.

To add to what Jim said here, I have a Clie SJ30. It has a program
called "MS Import" I just tap on that icon and the Memory Stick then
shows up on my PC just like a hard drive. So, you should be able to
then copy all of the files from the Memory Stick to your PC, then back
to the new Memory Stick.

There's one caveat: There's some card-specific files on the card that
should NOT be copied. These include (list not complete, as it may depend on
the software using the card):
\MEMSTICK.IND
\MSTK_PRO.IND
\Palm\Programs\DXTG\CardIdentifier (Used by DocumentsToGo)
Also, since the file system format is MSDOS/FAT based, there may be some
problems with some programs if you don't restore the correct DOS 8+3 name in
addition to the long name. This is normally only a problem if you have
files and/or folders with very similar names, like pictureone.jpg,
picturetwo.jpg etc. -- these will have DOS 8.3 names like PICTUR~1.JPG,
PICTUR~2.JPG, and if restored in a different order than they were created,
the 8+3 names won't be the same.
If you use a program that understands this problem (like WinRAR) to create
an archive, and then extract that archive onto the new stick, it will work
well. If you simply copy files, or use a program that doesn't retain *both*
long and 8+3 names, it may bite you.
This last problem is not unique to Palm cards, but is a frequent cause of
frustration for PC users who use inferior backup programs, and things break
when restoring cause the 8+3 name changes. (Veritas Backup Exec, Windows
2000/XP built-in backup and Stomp Backup MyPC all have this flaw, and should
be avoided)

Thanks, Art and all you knowledgeable fellows. I appreciate the input.
After 2 years of using it as a glorified address book, I finally
decided to use the Clie as it should be. I am learning as fast as I
can. Indeed RTFM applies. A lot to learn, too.
Got a(n) USB card reader for $2.99 on eBay. Can't beat that. I have
struck out with Veritas software in the past exactly for the reasons
Art stated, but nowadays that is no longer an issue, since I back-up
all data up to a 160-gig FireWire drive, without archiving or
compressing. :-)
