I was looking at buying a Dimesion 8300 with the intel 875p chipset
and 3.2Ghz Prescott chip with 1MB L2 cach but for some reason here in
Australia this configuration is not available. The 3.2 Prescott is
only available in the Dim 4600 however this comes only with the 865
chipset. Is there any major difference in the two systems and why is
it not available in Aus.

Your thoughts please.

There's a significant physical difference in the two systems and in the
features of the two chipsets. Rather than blather on about it, you can
compare the two over at www.support.dell.com .

Why the 8300 wouldn't be available in Oz is anyone's guess. (?)

Hi,

I am happy NOT to have a prescott in my Dim 4k6, but a northwood.
The prescott is very bad in power consuming, so producing more
heat requirering a better cooling.....

Look at Toms Hardware site for a comparison. There seems to be no real
benefit to the Prescott other than the liklihood of overheating. And
with Dell, and their fan/shroud cooling arrangement, that really could
be a problem
