The regular tournament was played on Bally Star Trek (1978) and saw the
following finalists: Jeff Palmer (high score 315,590), Brian Dominy
(high score 207,890), Marcel Gonzalez (high score 172,290), and Alex
Barberis (high score 139,740). The finals were single elimination,
during which Brian Dominy put up an impressive 771,360 in the
semi-finals. The final round was between Brian and Jeff with Brian
taking 1st and Jeff taking 2nd. Interestingly enough, this was
consistent with these two players’ individual high games.

The zen tournament resulted in some interesting play on Stern’s Elvis.
Jeff Palmer and Ron Donahue posted and early high score of 154,828,750,
their first attempt, that looked rock solid against the other entries.
The next contender was well behind, with a score of 93,584,460 posted by
Rolando Barberis and Trip Payne. Then, in their last attempt, the team
of Joel Cohen and Brian Dominy managed a winning score of 272,228,200
and drained just as Graceland was lit.

Trophies for the 1st and 2nd place winners of the regular tournament and
the winning team of the zen tournament are being ordered and should be
available for presentation at the next event. That is expected to be
sometime in August.

Thanks for hosting the event, Ed. Your very nice collection of new and
old machines made for an enjoyable party.

Congrats go to Brian and Joel, for coming through in the clutch and
taking Ron and I down in zen. What was cool to watch was the crowd
gathered around watching them destroy Elvis in their last, but hugely
successful attempt to capture first place. One shot from
Graceland-dang, guys. Gotta get the K-mart blue light special ;-)

Playing the video mode in Elvis in zen is a riot!

Brian and I had one boring, low scoring game for the individual finals,
but a win is a win. That's the truly amazing nature of pinball. One
game you are flowing all over the place, the next you might as well
play blindfolded. Nonetheless, good job!

It is terrific to see South Florida pinball growing. If any you
reading this are in the South Florida area, you need to get involved!!

Looking forward to August!

I had a great time at the event. Ed was an outstanding host, there was
a great variety of games and a bunch of good guys. It was good to see
some folks from the APE, and I hope to see others next time we get
together. Great place to play, really well maintained games and
friendly pooches. There is not much more you could ask for at an
event. Thanks very much.

Indeed. All the games were in great shape. Thanks again for opening up
your home to us, Ed.

That was wild. Our first two attempts were pathetic, mostly my fault.
The winning game was truly a team effort -- Joel rocked the Blue Suede
Shoes shot near the end of the game. And I really didn't realize that
we were that close to Graceland; I thought for sure we were a few Gifts
away.

There was some suspense there, as Jeff's scoring segments blanked out
towards the end of his last ball and we had to get in there and reseat
it to find out the true score.

Sorry for that minor glitch. The culprit turned out to be bad/cracked
solder joints at the molex pins for the score board.

Glad everyone had a good time - it is fun to host the group and I look
forward to doing it again. Fortunately my wife is a good sport and a
sound sleeper.
