Hi I have the Asus A7V333 mobo rev number 1.01 and was wondering if I can use the AMD 2500+ processor on it. And if there was a compatability issue with the revision number can I still use that processor. And if no is there a way I can run that processor on it?

I have an A7V333 revision 1.01, and I also wanted to update my cpu to one of the newer 333 FSB ones. According to the Asus webpage ( http://www.asus.com/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx ), revision 1.X A7V333 motherboards only support 266 FSB cpus.

Not happy with this, I sent an email to Asus technical support, and the answer they gave me was that one of the improvements on revision 2.X motherboards is the KT333CF northbridge, which supports 333 FSB cpus, while revision 1.X ones have the KT333 northbridge with only supports 266 FSB cpus. So the fastest cpu we can use in this motherboard is the 266 FSB XP 2600+.

Bah, I have an A7V333-RAID V1.01 with BIOS 1016 and I managed to overclock my JIUHB 0307 Thoroughbred-B 1800+ @ 2313MHz (185 x 12.5) on a 2.2V Vcore using Samsung PC3200 TCC4 memory @ 2.5/3/3/6 2T using "optimal" timing, giving me Sandra CPU Arithmetic score of 6485/3224 and CPU Multimedia of 12686/14104. I also had enough time to take a screenshot.

Right now, I'm running it @ 2000MHz (12 x 166) on a 1.725 Vcore, memory is @ 2/2/2/5 1T, again, using "optimal".

I suggest you go by your gut feelings on this one, maybe you could try to get a refund or exchange on your current board and hope to get a V2.00 this time...

As Sid says, you CAN do it - it supports the higher FSB etc - although you may need a BIOS update. The only real sticking point is that I don't think you can get the VCORE below about 1.7V, whereas the newer XP cores want 1.6V, so you'd be overvolting the CPU. that's not necessarily a problem though - as long as you have a decent HSF (ThermalTake Volcano 7+ maybe?). it even gives you an excuse to overclock it a little....

I tried running my XP1700+ t-bred B on an A7V333, and I could get it to post but it would just overheat, as I only had a crappy GlobalWin cooler on it.

I asked this very question many weeks ago and I was not happy with the answers so I did some research.

I would like to say that I am amazed that more people are not really pissed off about this ASUS board: I went to the VIA website and it clearly states that the KT333 chipset supports 333FSB but the ASUS board did not ship with this support. So does that mean that they cut down on the board design just because there were no 166 CPUs out there at the time? I think it was a money saving opportunity which is amazing for a company with great name / reputation like ASUS.

Anyway I would not recommend trying the 2500+ in your board. I suggest that you do what I am doing - sell your board on Ebay and then get a A7V8X or an A7N8X to replace it. Of course I had even more problems because I run a RAID system so it was difficult to find the right board but there are rev 2.0 boards being sold if you are patient enough and shop around. I got my rev. 2.0 board off Ebay for £70 brand new including postage if that helps.

4.77MHz to 4.0GHz in 10 years. Imagine the space year 2020 :)

Its not that that kt333 supports the 333mhz bus, it just supports the 266mhz bus "officially" (although some motherboards like the Epox 8k3a+ manage to overclock far beyond that), and 333mhz memory "officially", but not synchronous 33mhz bus and mem.

Instead of Rdram, why not just merge 4 Sdram channels...

The via KT333 chipset does oficially support the 333 FSB. Take a look at http://www.viatech.com/en/apollo/KT333.jsp
I think I got screwed by Asus, so next time I'll buy a Gigabyte, MSI or any other brand of motherboard, but never again an Asus.

The lowest Vcore setting on the A7V333 1.01 is 1.1V, highest is 2.2V, it's controled by a set of 5 jumpers just north of the DDR slots.

Before overclocking my CPU, I undervolted it to 1.3V at stock speed, it was 100% stable, running Prime95 at priority 10 for over 36 hours but 1.2V was too low and resulted in lockups.

When on a 166MHz FSB, Sandra report my PCI bus is over 43MHz but AIDA32 report it is fine @ 33MHz.

My memory is running @ 166MHz 2/2/2/5 1T 1:1 CPU/Memory ratio.

I'm sure I could pop a Barton in there without any problems but 200MHz FSB seems out of reach.
