Found driver don't know how to install inf

I have did a clean install on a HP ProBook 4530s and the download page is a mess. So I had to find which drivers I need by searching the Device Instance Id. I found a driver ,Atheros AR5B95 Wireless LAN 802.11 a/b/g/n Controller, but when I go to the website, http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=30&system=6 , I get a rar with no .exe .... How do i install it?

.inf drivers are installed by hitting update drivers from the device manager.

Then you can point to the inf file you have(so its folder in an easy to find location).

  5. This is also what people do when they refer to "Forcing" a driver to install.

Just make sure you never Force(with the have disk option) a driver for a critical system component.

  6. Another way to install them would be to right click on the inf file and select install from the list of options given.

That reminds of of TweakUI for XP :)

Yep same thing pretty much but it has become part of the OS without the need for TweakUI (at least I think it is part of the OS as I don't remember installing any modification on win7 and it's there - but now that you mention it I hope it is part of the default install and not something I've added !)

This does no good when the device isn't installed yet. You can't update the driver for a device that isn't installed.

I'm trying to install an HP 2420dn printer on Win7 64-bit, and find that many of the "drivers" I try to install rely on INF files. Right-clicking on them and then clicking "Install" produces the message "The INF file you have selected does not support this method of installation." Trying to install them thru Devices & Printers ->Add a printer simply hangs after choosing an INF file. Neither can I install printer drivers in Windows XP using INF files.
