What does printer being offline mean?

Computer is saying that our printer is "offline", yet everything indicates that the printer is selected and , indeed, receiving faxes presently. Am trying to print documents from my files, but can't because of being "offline". Have checked all wire connections and have turned everything off and back on.....no change. What do I do? Thanks.

Check Windows Start, Printers and Faxes. Check cables. Check that there's no paper jam or other indicator flashing on the printer.

Try printer with another computer, if poss try computer with another printer.
