Have a Dimension 8300. Works great. Except this morning, after resuming from
standby, my speakers make a loud pop sound. Tried different speakers, same
thing. Something in the PC. Sound card drivers are current. I don't have any
Windows sound on, all are turned off. I installed a Creative PCI
Soundblaster card in it. Four months without issue until now. Creative loads
startup files which I have turned on and off. No difference. Not using any
"effects" in Creative either. Using XP Pro, 1gig ram, 3.2ghz Intel. Any help
would be appreciated. Thanks

Jeff, while under totally different circumstances, I also had a loud
pop every time I turned my system off. I asked about it on a talk show
and was advised that it was nothing to worry about, it won't harm my
system. That it was just a process that was taking its course. Can't
remember what I did to change things, but weeks down the line the POP
was gone.
Until you get a more definitive answer, I hope this puts your fears to
rest.
