I'm fairly happy with my new system, but it seems to be getting below-average scores. Here's the specs...
Athlon XP 2600+ (2.13 266FSB)
Radeon 9700 Pro (at default speeds)
80gig 7200rpm hard drive
512mb ram
Via KT266A chipset

Now I realize that the KT266A is somewhat of a joke, but should I be getting high 11,000's to just over 12,000? That seems low to me. I installed new Cat 3.2's, but got a decrease in performance (even when settings are turned down to best performance). Something has to be wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, that setup should be capable of around 13000 in 3DMark2001SE when tested on an nForce2 motherboard. Yes, the KT266A motherboard is a limiting factor, and probably is reducing your performance 8-10%. Also, what kind of RAM do you have? Are you able to run at CL 2.0 speeds?

Doubt it. The best I could force my dad in to buying was a "Creation Station" HP computer. Not too bad, I guess. How would I go into checking my BIOS for those settings again? I forgot about CAS timings which could account for the rest of the difference. I'm still very happy with this system (Freelancer Demo looks great with full detail on, and C&C Generals doesn't crawl, even with visuals on, which is a plus). Sooner or later I'll probably update mobo (especially if/when the new nForce board comes out, which would lower price of nForce 2). I could also o/c just a little bit, and see how that goes.

Overclock that stuff... you have the most overclockable (bar Geforce4 Ti4200) hardware on the market and you are running it at the HORRIBLE stock speeds?

eBay, kick ass!
