Why is this so cheap???

US site selling 2600+ for US$156.

This is by far the cheapest price I've ever seen... which makes me suspicious. As far as I can tell the sale is legit, the CPU ships in the AMD packaging, but I'm still wary.

Any suggestions as to why they are selling it for $100 less than most other retailers?

It Does say that "picture shown may vary from actual product". But price watch also shows AMD AXP 2600+ 333 as 158$ so i guess it's fine.

I'd like to know who you consider to be "most other retailers", because Pricewatch is listing "most other retailers" to be selling the OEM AXP2600+ for a <i>lot</i> less than $256.

Even the Barton 3000+ has fallen to under $350 from many suppliers. There's been some deep price cuts in the last couple weeks.

Of course, someone needs to tell <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com" target="_new">http://www.newegg.com</A> since they are still trying to sell it for $555.

Yeah. Newegg's AXP2600+ is pretty high still too. Googlegear's price is incredibly lower for a change. Usually Newegg is so much more on the ball.
