I need to update 5 desktops and a server to Windows 7 from XP. Should I buy new desktops and server with Windows 7 pre-loaded or can I upgrade by purchasing individual Windows 7 software?

But if it a XP machine, run this Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

And make sure you can find all the windows 7 driver for the old machine.

As rgd1101 already said, the main concern is the driver..

u need to prepare the driver first.. at least the vista ones (w7 ones is better but vista drivers could work too) before updating the old XP machine to w7...
