Printer Problems....

can anyone suggest why the printer wont work?? It suddenly started flasing up 'unexpected error'(but rather unhelpfully, not what the error was....)when i tried to print anything. I've replaced the cartridges with new ones and uninstalled/reinstalled the driver software and still it wont work. message now reads 'cannot connect' but if i remove/reconnect the cable it bleeps to signify hardware removal/addition. Its a Dell printer and laptop. Thanks.

Where is the 'unexpected error' coming from? Does it happen right when you plug it in and turn it on (as in, when it's recognizing new hardware)?

Does it show up in your printer menu? Device manager?
