No Desktop No Task Bar

My Win XP Desktop, taskbar, and system tray no longer load. I have to start
all apps via Task Manager. I have run this group's recommended programs from
Kellys Korner (line 195, etc), but these did not make a difference.

I have also run system restore and that did not help either.

I would like to try reinstalling XP, but I do not get a prompt to boot from
CD. When attempting to reinstalling from the CD, I get an error that says I
cannot install it because the os on my pc is newer than the one on the disk.

I look forward to learning the solution to this problem! Thanks.

Before you reinstall XP try this :

The rreason you get the message that the OS on your PC is newer than your
disk is probably because you have installed SP2. I am not sure of that but I
believe I read that on another newsgroup.

You probably have XP Home, use this method to create a new user account
instead...
