Hi,

I have an HP a420a Desktop PC. ITs not quite one year old. It has no
floppy drive but various slots for sd cards etc.

It was working just fine until the other morning. I turned it on and it
just beeps. The beeps are broken but continuous. The light on the front of
the CPU is on, the fan is working. It sounds like the cd rom starts up and
perhaps the hhd aswell. But nothing comes up on the screen, nor does the
keyboard work so I cant even get into it at all.

I have unplugged the keyboard, mouse, monitor, modem, cdrom and hd and it
still does the same. What else could it be? In the manual it says you can
reset the password and cmos. Its not a password problem and I cant find the
cmos button.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

thanks
Julie

Julie,

Several possbilities...

1. Memory sticks have come loose from their sockets.
2. Video card or on-board video has failed.
3. System battery has failed, causing unusual symptoms.

Disconnect computer from wall current, open the case, check the memory, replace
the battery (a common C2032 3v lithium coin-sized).

If the system is still under warranty, get in touch with HP immediately.

My guess is that the on-board video has failed or the motherboard as a whole has
a failed component like a blown capacitor... Ben Myers

Julie:

If it is under one year's old, it should still under warranty, right? Call and put
up with the long waiting and have it repair by the HP. Better do it before your
warranty end.
