I know the thoroughbred B cores are the ones to get, but i also know there's various steppings of these cores. Which steppings would be the ones to look for, and which ones would be ones to stay away from. Where can i buy a guaranteed stepping for these processors other than excaliburPC. Thanks in advance

My XP2400+ is a model stepping 6 8 1 and runs so far @ 2260 on 1.8v

Best bet when choosing a CPU is to look at the 2nd digit following the model speed number which identifies the chips voltage:-

Q = 1.45v
L = 1.50v
S = 1.5v
U = 1.6v
K = 1.65v
P = 1.7v
M = 1.75v
N = 1.8v

The usual rating for a Thoroughbred B is 1.65v (K) but there are chips around which use less - these are the ones to look for as they are faster parts downgraded to meet demand and so use less voltage.

Also something to avoid here:- Midway On the second line is 4 numbers which relate to the year/week of manufacture and are followed by 4 last digits, the third of which is a batch ID. If this letter is M then the CPU came from the failed QC bin. It couldn't run it's intended speed and was therefore downgraded.
