The Alesis HD24 is good, depends how many tracks you need ? and what your budget is, also, whether you want "stand-alone" hardware, or a combination of hardware and software, like Pro Tools, although Digidesign are in the middle of a big shake-up, with some exciting new stuff supposed to be coming out that's more affordable ? I need more information before I can give you a specific recommendation. There's everything from the little Tascam DP02, to an Otari RADAR in hardware, or a Pro Tools HD system, and at the bottom end of the budget, Reaper software, which you will be able to afford no matter who you are, because it's free !
