computer (AMD) parts help advice

I am building a computer for college. I have the following parts allready, would like to hear opinions and advice.
I dont plan to overclock
planning to use onboard sound

asus a7n8x deluxe mobo
AMD xp 2600+ 333 retail (use boxed heatsink??)
Maxtor 40 gig ata 133
2 PNY 256 pc-2700 333 memory (will it effect my board?)
RaidMax Case with Achieve 500 w PSU (not sure I'll keep this)
19" monitor
Logitec optical mouse
internet keyboard
Windows XP FULL home edition
My main question is video cards Im torn between cost and quality of radeon 9500 pro and 9700 pro. I want to know is it worth the extra $100 for the 9700?? Im on a budget.

Use stock cooler unless you overclock

Your ram may be OK, but it may not do the fastest timings at Dual channel mode. If it isn't stable at fastest timings, then you can buy Corsair XMS PC3200 CL2.0 DDR

Get a good brand PSU, and you don't need 500W. A good brand 350W psu will do the job
