I'm getting ready to build myself a new PC, it's been a long wait but finally the 800Mhz P4's are here.
This is the setup I'm thinking of going for:
Asus P4C800 Deluxe DDR i875P Canterwood Motherboard
P4 3Ghz Hyper Threading (PG-800FSB) Intel PentiumĀ® 4 CPU 512k Cache
(2x) Corsair XMS 512Mb DDR 400MHz PC3200 Cas 2 - Low Latency Platinum
128Mb ATI Saphire Radeon 9800 Pro DVI/TV DDR Retail
Plextor 48x24x48 IDE Re-Writer Retail Kit Inc Media/Software
550W Enermax EG651P-VE Whisper Quiet Dual Fan PSU - AMD Approved / P4 2Yr
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum-2 Retail
...I can get all that from www.scan.co.uk for £1,482.65 inc.VAT
I already have:
(2x) 80Gb Maxtor 7200rpm ATA133
40Gb Maxtor 5400rpm ATA66 drives.
12x DVD Rom Drive
Coolermaster ATC201 Case
Floppy Drive
MS Intellimouse Explorer
MS Natural Keyboard
Sony 19" Trinitron Monitor
...so, is there anything you would change? Any suggestions or comments?
Is it worth waiting for the 3.2Ghz P4? Or the 256Mb Radeon 9800Pro (anyone know when thats gonna be available?).
Gee, let me think, what would be the best system I could imagine if I wanted to play games, oh wait, there it is! You shouldn't change anything. You could probably OC the 3.0GHz to 3.2 with a good HSF if it's that imortant (that way you could get 400fps in Quake3, instead of just 392). As for the R9800 Pro, the extra ram will probably come in handy with games in 2005, until then the 128MB will probably do fine. And the 256MB version will be out next month in the states.
Might as well get a 9800pro now, might be june before we see 256mb version.
