hi , my newly assembled pc is on fire ..the processor gets very hot although i didn't overlock it yet :( its reaches temps of 62 celcius ..what could be the problem the cpu ..and the heatsink fan is showing 2330 rpm isn't that a bit slow? or it can be the powersupply whch is 300w

What processor is it?
What heat sink is it?
What thermal interface material did you use between the heat sink and the processor?
Are you sure that your heat sink is seated correctly?
What kind of case ventilation do you have? (How many fans, size of fans, location of fans, facing of fans, vent holes, etc.)
What is the room temperature that this computer is in?
What graphics card are you using?
What and how many hard drive(s) are you using?

its a 2.4ghz 533
intel heat sink that came with it
none
yes
i have 2 fans 80mm one in the front and other at the back
the room temp is around 25c while ac is on and 40 while ac is off.
i have a segate 40gb hhd-lg dvd-lg cd-rom-lg cdrw

Are you sure that you didn't use any sort of a thermal interface material? You didn't use the little pad that came stuck on the heatsink? You didn't get rid of that silly little pad and use a professional grease like Arctic Silver 3? It's just the bare metal of the heatsink's base against the bare metal of the CPU's heat spreader?

And which way is each fan facing? Is the front fan blowing into the case or out of the case? What about the rear fan?

And what type and speed of RAM are you using?

25/40C Room temp is probably your problem. Is there no way to make your room any cooler?

There seems to be problem with the Heat sink FAN also. I have the exact same proc and the CPU fan revs up to 4500RPM when the proc heats up and i get a max temp of about 45-52 C depending on room temp. Get the fan checked.

well i think its blowing the air out thats the it came when i got the case . iam using a spectek 512 ddr 333 ram..
my fan speed is 2350rpm is that normal i though that was the problem .. but then i changed the fan withspeeeds of 3300 rpm but change in temp ..i didn't use any thermal paste i didn't take anythink from under the heatsink. but i wanted to aske if when can disable the monitoring of the temp since the board beeps ever now and then warning me ...

Your heatsink came with a slippery black pad on the bottom. Anyway, your room temp is your most likely culprit, although you didn't say what you're using to check temperature (Asus Probe for example is notoriously inaccurate).

You should check if the hsf is seated properly.

Why does it matter if he used the pad that came with the CPU? If Intel put the pad there, then it obviously is usable. AS3 is not needed everytime a cpu is installed.

well maybe you are right about asus probe ,but does apply for the temp shown in the bios to ? i sink is on the processor right i took it of two times and made sure that its seated well . what can i do i am getting sick of this board it was my dream board :( its giving me all thia trouble . so can i do ?

Guessing I'd say about 52C for this cpu, after OCing then maybe 62C. You got one of them adjustable speed cpu fan controlled by MB I guess, mine runs 2200 ~ 3500rpm. The cpu runs anything upto 66C, I've had a 69C but this was before some minor cooling mods. The maximium cpu temp is attained after some direct3d gameplay, normal CPU temp is in the range 42C~54C.

MB is ASUS P4PE and some more technicals are:

CPU = P4 2.66Ghz oc at 3Ghz
MEM = 355Mhz oc at 400Mhz (768MB)
Volts = 1.65volts (1.5~1.6volt CPU)
FSB = 133Mhz oc at 150Mhz
Video = lowly 9700 standard Sapphire brand unit
CPU fan speed = 2200 ~ 3500 rpm
Video Settings = Max on all Direct3d games < most important

:eek:
