I have an Asrock H55DE3 motherboard running Windows 7 pro 32 bit with intel i3. When I try and do a custom clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit using an upgrade cd it will install all the way to the point of unpacking files and then I get the BSOD and the Stop 0124 error. Both the motherboard and i3 are 64 bit capable.

I have an GTX 550Ti video card

The computer has been running great with 32 bit but I want to be able to take advantage of more memory with 64 bit.
Any thoughts?

It reads:

The system encountered an uncorrectable hardware error.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x00000124 0x80300001

The rig has not been over-clocked. The GTX 550 Ti has nvidia drivers and I've been reading that others have had problems that were resolved after removing the card first.

I've checked the voltages and everything is in range.

I'm wondering if I removed the card and drivers and then tried the upgrade that this might help. Maybe if I remove all programs that have alternative 64 bit drivers and then after the upgrade reinstall with the alternative 64 bit drivers, that would work. Any thoughts?

Thanks for all the answers!

Still received BSoD.

Other than the 0124 stop error I also get:
0xFFFFFA8006EBF028
0x000000002102

I've look around the net and wasn't able to
find out anything about either one.

Thanks for the help.

Hello,

First, let me thank everyone for their answers! I appreciate your help!

Whats happen so far:

When I tried to do the upgrade from the Win 7 32 bit I had 8 GB (4 x 2 GB) of Ripjaw X Series DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) I know the 32 bit system only recognized a small bit of that memory but I had anticipated upgrading to 64 bit like my other computers are.

I received a suggestion to clear the CMOS and enable XMP so I cleared the CMOS enabled XMP and set the memory to 1600. I still received the BSoD to undo any hardware or software changes.

This made me think maybe I had a bad memory stick so I uninstalled the Ripjaws DDR3 1600 memory, cleared the CMOS again, set the memory to default and installed some DDR3 1333 (PC10600) with 4 GB memory (4 X 1 GB) that I had from a previous build.

The install of the 64 bit upgrade went fine. Once I had the system up and running I repeated the procedure (Installed the DDR3 1600, set memory to 1600, enable XMP). System would not get past Windows splash screen and then BSoD.

For the final time undid all changes in bios reinstalled DDR3 1333 (PC10600)
and everything is fine. My thinking is that one (or more) of the 1600 memory sticks is bad. The whole purpose of the 64 bit upgrade was to be able to take advantage of increased memory so I bought 8 GB (2 GB x 4) of the 1333 memory and will install when it arrives. I'm not a heavy gamer and I think that the real difference between 1333 and 1600 is only about 2 fps.

Any comments appreciated - Griz
