Recently I have read on here some postings stating that backglasses
have been ruined by using the Krylon Crystal Clear Triple Thick. These
people have cautioned others to be sure and use just Krylon Triple
Thick and not the Crystal Clear Triple Thick product. I received my
new Krylon catalog today and noticed there was only the Crystal Clear
Triple Thick listed. I called Krylon and was informed by them that the
Crystal Clear Triple Thick product is the same product as Triple Thick.
They informed me that they had a label change and the contents in the
can was the same.
Also, I learned that the color Antique White (#1503 which was
mentioned in the TOPS #1 EM Pinball tape is no longer is no longer
available with no replacement color.

Do they still make John Deere Yellow? That was a good paint to use on some
early Ballys like Strikes and Spares & Mata Hari but I haven't seen it in
about 7 years.

Where can you get a Krylon catalog from?

I think you're confused with the naming (so am I!) Either product with the
words "triple thick" is okay. However they also have a product called
Krylon Crystal Clear acrylic coating, without the words "triple thick" on
the label. That's the one that we've been told to beware of.

Are you maybe confusing Triple Thick with the standard Krylon clear?
They also make (made?) a thinner product sold under the name Crystal
Clear. This is the one to avoid, just make sure the name says Triple
Thick somehwere. The can will probably say something about using for
ceramics on it. I have used the new label product on four glasses so
far with no adverse effects.

Yes- that one (acrylic coating) seems to be a "light duty" clearcoat- for
craft/scrapbook projects, etc. Stick to the "triple thick" for backglasses.

Cool, is that the cabinet color? I have a SnS that needs some serious
touching up...

BOTH will work fine as they are the same exact
chemical makeup. I use only the non Triple Thick
variety myself, and have done so for many
years.

ALWAYS test first before using either formula
and you shall have no "new" problems.

(And follow the instructions on the can, too.)

Just look (or ask) for part number 0500 - that is the Krylon P/N for
triple thick.

Make sure any Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze you buy is the NEW
can. The old style cans are at least 2 years old by now and shouldn't be
used. The new can looks like this:

It's not dead-on but a close match and looks good for full area repaints
rather than just spot touch-ups. Of course results can also depend on the
amount of UV fading your cabinet colors have from use over the years. I
repainted the frame around the front of the backbox on a S&S I had years ago
with Krylon's John Deere Yellow and it really turned out nice. Our local
Krylon outlet stopped carrying it shortly afterward....

Mine is just faded around the coin door (ie, front), plus the edge around
the backglass could stand a good re-doing. What have you found works for
the red?

Krylon "Banner Red" is good- use it all the time on Williams games of that
era for cabinet repaints.
