I have a client running xp sp1. To my eye his OS is XP in English. All text
is in English. Recvery cds say french version. He swears it is French and
that he changed some setting somewhere to make it appear English. I want to
install SP2 but am not sure whether to use the french or english version.
Any ideas about this?

Well I for one would love to know where to look to identify what region the
OS was manufactured in , since locale's can be changed at will...

I've had an issue just like this one.

However there is one way for you to know which Sp2 to install , try the
english one first , it will then give you an error message to the effect of
"the service pack you are trying to install does not match the language of
the operating system" or something like that anyway , if you do not recieve
the error , sp2 will install.

Then you will know which one to install , it'll happen just after extracting
files , max 10 mins of your time.
