ok...here's the lowdown....
i just installed winxp pro and when i go to the windows update and i scan for updates it says "there are no updates available for your computer at this time"

i had the same problem when i installed win2k the last time on this machine (but the times before that when i installed win2k and win98 i had no problems with updates) i even tried installing winxp off of 2 diff cds but i still have the same problem. since i haven't changed any hardware i can't really see how hardware could cause this problem (and even if i did change it i don't see how hardware could screw this up). if someone could help me out i would appreciate it. thanks.

Here's a workaround.

Go pick up the files at this website:

<A HREF="http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp?corporate=true" target="_new">Microsoft Windows Corporate Update</A>.

After you donwload the updates, save them to disk, or burn them to a CD-R, and you won't have to go through this again.

ok...i went through and downloaded and ran all the "self-extracting cabinet files" or whatever they were called... it still says that i don't need any updates BUT this morning when i turned my pc back on it started the little "auto-update" thing in the system tray. it just asked me if i wanted windows to download updates for me automatically so i gave it the okay.... i still suspect there is a problem though because i would think there would still be some driver updates or something when i go to the windows updates site and "scan for updates."

"there are no updates available for your computer at this time"

(insert some really f*cking maniacal, and hideous laugh, here)

(insert one more, because i'm having trouble concentrating)

Ummmmmmm.

That's really strange. Maybe the cd you bought was bad?

If that were me, I'd call msft and complain. In fact, I'd go down to the store where I bought it and show them the receipt so I could return it.

(insert a Dr. Evil maniacal laugh, here)

C@lling it like I c it...
