what are the main differences between the palomino and the thoroughbred core??

if any important, how would these differences affect any overclocking procedure?

thank you

They differe in die size, and heat dessipation. Thoroughbred is much better than Palomino, while Thoroughbred-B is better than Thoroughbred-A; and there is another Barton which suppose to be better than Thoroughbred-B.

Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

Clock for clock The Tbred and Palo are on par performance wise. A Tbred of same clockspeed however will run as little as two thirds as hot and be able to overclock by a much greater margin. Tbreds also run at a much lower vcore which shows the greater efficiency of the chip.

Tbreds and Palos are easily told apart by just looking at the shape of the core. The Palo being square and the Tbred a rectangle being very similar in shape and size to the old Thunderbird Athlon core.

Heres some helpful info that will help you understand how to find out what processor core you have/want, especially if you want to run it at 2.2ghz+ (overclocking).

typical Palomino code; AX 1700 A M-(1.75v) R 3 C
typical Tbred A code AXDA 2200 B K-(1.65v) V 3 C
(AIUGA stepping, A at end = tbred A)
typical Tbred B code AXDA 1700 D U-(1.60V) T 3 C
Look for JUIHB/AIUHB = tbred B, on the next line or on web pages with the code voltage L (DLT3C) (266fsb) or DLT3D (333fsb) for 1.5V to get the coolest processor!
