Newbie - playfield question

Hi, I've got a very simple question, but I'm a newbie so I don't know...
I've seen pictures on the web of people lifting their playfields and it
actually stays up by itself. Am I doing something wrong, because I
tried many times to get it to stay up but I don't understand how that
system works. I see 2 ski shaped metal pieces at the bottom that
slide on wooden rails but I can't get themn close enough for the
playfield to stay up. Not to mention that I think the wires are not long
enough to permit it. Can anybody explain how this is supposed to work?

Also I noticed a metal lever with the tip covered in yellow plastic, looks
like it's grounded. Any idea what it's used for? I thought maybe it
was to help keep the playfield up...

Thanks for your help.

What game are you talking about? Most will slide forward and then lift
up, just past vertical and balance in place. Some have a catch, or
hook near the bottom to hold them up.

Nic,

I would assume the metal lever with the yellow handle is the lockbar
latch handle, is this located just inside and above the coin door area?
It should have nothing to do with whether the playfield stays up or
not. It would only hold the chrome lock bar down. However, you do
need to move this handle to the far left, remove the lock bar and
glass, to get at lifting up the playfield.

I dont think there is a problem with the playfield apron touching the
back cabinet, thats what I do with my creature, just rest it gently
against the back cabinet. Unless I am missing something? Others may
have a different take on this.

I have a TZ. Pull the playfield as far forward as you can slide it.
Once it catches, give it a tug and it will pop forward a bit more and
click into place. From there it should easily lift straight back and
stand up. By tugging it it locks the PF in place so it won't slide
when you lift it up.

I've got a TZ. I figured as much as you said but I can barely pass vertical
and at that point,
the pice below the flippers (where the price card is) touches the top of the
backbox.

Do you know anything about the lever I'm talking about, would it be related
to my problem?

Thanks

With the playfield in the playing position, grab the apron at the outhole
area(center drain) and lift the playfield up and then when clear of the
cabinet, pull it back towards you until it stops. You should hear a catching
sound--that is the cabinet pins on the left and right side of the cabinet
engaging the left and right playfield slides.

At that point you should be able to lift the playfield and it should pivot
about those pins on the inside sides of the cabinet.

Go just past vertical and rest the apron on the backbox. It should stay by
itself.

To lower the playfield, simply let it down and as it approaches the resting
position where the underplayfield metal brackets want to rest on the front
of the cabinet, the playfield slides should disengage and you should be able
to slide the playfield into the playing position.

You can see this demonstrated in the manual on page 1-5.

If you don't have the manual, go get it:

If I'm not mistaken, the manual with the game gives
detailed info on how to raise the playfield to the
service position. I know it is in the CFTBL one at
least.

Do you have the manual?

I got it! I wasn't pully back the playfield all the way. And I never
realized I
was missing a manual.

I was hoping this manual might clarify what this lever is but it doesn't
(well I couldn't find
it in there at least). Sorry Mike for not responding directly to your post.
The lever
is not the lockbar it's another lever located on the right side of the
cabinet (inside actually)
It's actually wired to the transformer. I assume that's the ground??? Does
this help
identifying the lever?

Thank you so much everyone, this just made my life so easier!

I know the Leaver you are talking about, I use it to hold my PF up at
45deg it helps when working on the front flippers, on a TZ there is a small
rought that I place the Lever Point into but on my HSII there is no rought
so I just place it under the PF and it works fine, hope this helped.

You can use that stick to prop the playfield but it will put some twist on
the board.

If the playfield slide mechanisms are working properly, you should rarely if
ever need this.

In the rare occasion I need to have the Pf halfway up, I use an old broom
handle and I prop the field at the centerline so it does not twist.
