Provide details about your current Graphics Card and Processor. Overclocking?

Well thats just the thing, I think that my processor, (xp1700) is fried and I am not sure if my ati 8500le 128MB is working now either. Im basically looking to upgrade from these for about 300$ Thanks so much.

If I'm understanding correctly, this system as it exists today doesn't function at all. Mainly because you think the processor is "fried." Try your best to find out which component in your system is defective (CPU, Graphics Card, Motherboard, Memory, Monitor, other). Test them out individually in another system in your home. Or test on a friend's computer. Or locate a computer hardware maintenance store and see if they will allow you to test these components on one of their systems. If they charge a large fee, don't bother. We have to identify the problem component because if it's the motherboard, replacing the CPU and graphics card would be fruitless.

Nod and chances are that it's the mb or ps. Generally cpu's don't die nearly as often as mb or ps... shrug.

Heh alternately for about 325$ you could do this...

Motherboard - MSI K7N2-L -=- 96.00
Processor - Athlon XP 1700+ -=- 45.00
Ram - Samsung 256MB PC2700 -=- 28.00
Hard Disk - WD ATA/100 40GB 2MB 7200RPM -=- 57.00
CD-R - Lite On 52x -=- 22.00
Speakers - Juster 5d-107 7 PCS -=- 34.00
Floppy - Teac Floppy -=- 12.00
Case - Raidmax Model 208 10 Bay 350W PS -=- 43.00
Total: $337.00

Then just cut out the components you find that are good.

As it is the system doesnt work. The processor seems to be the problem after extensive troubleshooting. I am for sure going to get a amd barton, but as far as the video card I am not sure what I want to do. What about the Asus Geforce FX 5600 ? I've found it for the same price as the ati 9500 pro on Newegg. Any comments? Also what kind of a step up in performance would these cards off versus my existing ati 8500le 128mb?Thanks.

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ would be the best choice given the budget. Which leaves you with enough money to purchase the ATi 9500 Pro 128MB graphics card (with Red PCB) - faster than GeForceFX 5600 Ultra. These upgrades would provide you with a significant performance boost - especially if you overclock - and would make you much more prepared for future games.
